Chiropractic Care

Treatments are developed to address biomechanical imbalances in the body using a combination of traditional osseous (joint manipulation) adjusting and low force adjustments using the state of the art Impulse Adjusting Instrument.

Visits include therapeutic soft tissue manipulation and/or some form of deep tissue work to prepare the body for adjusting, and to reinforce the efficacy of adjustments.

Therapeutic rehabilitative exercise programs are developed to maintain proper ergonomic and functional stability.

Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST)

Often treatment plans will combine Chiropractic and Cranial-Sacral treatment. Occasionally, just one or the other treatment will be used. Depending upon an individuals’ particular need, we will discuss what treatment options will best address your health goals.

What is Cranial Work?

There is a measureable rhythmic pulsation (approximately 6-12 cycles/minute) within, and throughout, the central nervous system contained by the spine, sacrum, and skull, which is accompanied by other longer and slower wave patterns. When movement of the cranial-sacral (CS) system is altered due to various injuries, symptoms may appear. These can include jaw, tooth, facial, back, and neck pain, visual disturbances, hearing loss, tinnitus, sinus trouble, loss of smell, insomnia, Bell’s palsy, trigeminal neuralgia, nystagmus, strabismus, and various emotional and thought disturbances.

Through the use of specific gentle techniques, restrictions within the cranial sacral system are released. Since the body has evolved to support a normal functioning CS system, it tends to remain movable once it has been “released.” Without this help, not only is the body often unable to resolve these restrictions, but adapts to abnormal movement potentially leading to neurological, vascular, and/or biomechanical and organic complications.

What Causes a Dysfunctional Cranial-Sacral (CS) System?

Dysfunction may occur with head, neck, back, or more global somatic trauma, leaving scar tissue and/or traumatic tissue/neurological memory. Emotional shock and trauma may also contribute to, or be contained within these events. This may restrict the CS system’s ability to respond freely to its inherent rhythm. Damage can also be caused by a traumatic birth, extensive dental work, a bite imbalance, or chronic grinding of the teeth, and clenching of the jaw.

Treatment for children

It is important for all children to get their nervous systems checked. In utero, the nervous system is the first thing to develop. During childhood, growth is occurring at a phenomenal rate. To a large extent, the basic patterns of how an individual perceives and reacts to the environment are laid down during gestation, infancy & early childhood. When stress in the nervous system is reduced, the body’s innate abilities are optimized. Using a combination of skilled and gentle chiropractic and/or simply CST, Dr. Joseph can assess and treat your child so that your child can more effectively respond to the stresses with which he/she may come in contact.
